Senior Leadership Team

Steve is responsible for all facets of the business and its overall performance. He also is a member of Duck Creek’s Board of Directors. Steve has substantial general management experience with public and private companies. After serving as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force, Steve began his career with Colonial Life and Accident Insurance Company. He served in a number of key roles and eventually became president and CEO. His previous experience includes tenure as president and CEO of four technology companies. Steve holds undergraduate, Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Business Administration. He also completed programs in Competitive Strategy, Corporate Finance, Strategic Marketing and Managing the Information Resource at the Harvard Business School. He is a Fellow in the Life Management Institute. Steve is located in the Columbia, SC office.

John is a co-founder of the company and leads Duck Creek’s Product Management team. John has previously served in other key management roles including Product Development, Platform Development, Insurance Product Development and Customer Support, as well as Operations and Services. Prior to Duck Creek, John served as Vice President of Operations with AMS Rating Services through 1999. He began with AMS in 1987, and held progressive leadership roles in the Micro Magic/AMS organization throughout his 13-year tenure. From his start as a Commercial Lines Developer, John also served as Commercial Lines Manager, Commercial and Personal Lines Product Manager, Development Manager and Site Operations Manager at AMS. Before entering the insurance technology industry, John previously was an educator and coach at the high school and college level. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. John is located in the Bolivar, MO office.

Sam leads Duck Creek’s Professional Services organization which includes all implementation, integration and outsourcing services. Prior to joining Duck Creek, Sam worked for Policy Management System Corporation (PMSC) and later CSC for 22 years. During that time, Sam was a Development Manager for PMSC’s billing system; served as a Professional Services Manager; oversaw the initial development of the Project Directors and PMO organization; and spent several years as a Senior Account Executive in CSC’s Sales organization. Sam holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with a minor in Business Administration. Sam is located in the Columbia, SC Carolina office.

Greg joined Duck Creek in 2009 to lead the North American sales team and is responsible for sales to new and existing customers. Greg brings to this role 14 years of experience selling and managing enterprise software and related professional service engagements to the worldwide insurance industry. Prior to Duck Creek, Greg was instrumental in Exstream Software’s rapid growth in the insurance industry, which has been recognized as a leader in its category and was ranked #2, of all vendors that sell software to insurance carriers, on Celent’s 2009 Traction Index. Greg holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Studies from the University of South Australia and a MBA from the University of South Carolina. Greg is located in the Columbia, South Carolina office.

Michael joined Duck Creek Technologies in December 2005, responsible for the implementation of a rigorous requirements process, iterative development patterns and the creation of the Performance and Scalability lab. In his current position as Vice President of Product Development Michael oversees all aspects of development as well as the technology roadmap for Duck Creek Products. Prior to joining Duck Creek, Michael was Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Kinetic Corporation in Louisville, Kentucky. In this role Michael was responsible for all aspects of company operations. Michael holds a bachelor’s degree from Southwest Baptist University and the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer designation. Michael is located in the Bolivar, MO office.

Robin joined Duck Creek Technologies in January 2005. Prior to Duck Creek, she was involved in customer relations, training, budgeting, advertising, and special projects management. During her career at Duck Creek Technologies, she has served in a variety of roles, including a company process improvement initiative,project management for the commercial auto team, and program management for a customer engagement. Most recently she served as Customer Support Manager, overseeing the Account Management and Product Support teams, and closely collaborating withPlatform Support team. Her new responsibilities revolve around improving the entire customer experience. Robin is located in the Bolivar, MO office.

Nancy leads Duck Creek’s Marketing organization including product positioning, branding and messaging. She also oversees Duck Creek’s corporate communications and demand generation activities. Nancy brings more than 25 years experience in the P&C industry to the Duck Creek team. She has worked for several insurance-focused technology firms, including Policy Management System Corporation (PMSC/CSC), ISO and AQS. Nancy’s experience extends beyond traditional marketing to include deep experience with implementation, product support, marketing and partnership management. Nancy holds a BS in Mathematics from Meredith College and is located in the Columbia, SC office.

Eddie Jones joined Duck Creek in March 2010 as Vice President of Corporate Development for Duck Creek Technologies which includes Human Resources, IT, Education, Legal and Global Partnerships. He brings more than 20 years of experience in insurance software strategy development, marketing, and executive management. Prior to joining Duck Creek in March 2010, Eddie worked for StoneRiver as the Sr. Vice President of Marketing & Communications.  He has also worked at Computer Sciences Corporation and Policy Management Systems Corporation where he served customers in a variety of roles including Product Manager, Marketing Manager, Sales Specialist, International Sales Support Manager, Product Consultant, and Business analyst.  Early in his career, he focused on the opportunities and issues facing the international insurance market and spent three years in Germany developing the European operation.  Eddie holds  an International Masters in Business Administration from the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina and an undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina. He is on the Advisory Council for USC’s Honors College and he serves as the chair of ITS SC - the Insurance Technology & Services Cluster of Columbia, SC and as chair of the Innovation in Insurance (i3) program at the Moore School.

Tony has over 30 years experience in the software and financial services industry, with a strong background in Client Services and Business Development.  Prior to joining DCTE Tony spent 14 years at PMSC and CSC, in various senior operational and account development roles.

At CSC Tony had responsibility for major outsourcing accounts at both Zurich and Swiss Re with revenues in excess of $100m.  Prior to CSC Tony spent 12 years at PMSC Europe initially as Client Services Director responsible for all  products implementations in EMEA and was subsequently appointed Managing Director of PMSC UK, an operation in excess of 250 employees.

Tony has a BSc Degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Reading.

 

Board of Directors

Doug is Chairman of the Board of Directors for Duck Creek; he co-founded Duck Creek in January of 2000 and served as the CEO until becoming Chairman in 2008. Under his leadership, the company experienced tremendous growth. He and the other founders continue to play a significant role in Duck Creek's rapid growth and prominence in the insurance industry. With the proven ability to build successful technology companies, Doug's focus is to guide Duck Creek through its growth phases, and to continue to lead the company to deliver market-leading software and services to the insurance industry.

Prior to Duck Creek, Doug founded Micro-Magic Systems in 1981 and served as its CEO. Micro-Magic pioneered the development and marketing of insurance rating software and services to independent insurance agents. Micro-Magic was acquired by AMS in 1986, and became the cornerstone of AMS Rating Services, the largest property and casualty insurance rating organization in the United States. He served as the founding divisional CEO and also served in other key AMS corporate leadership roles until 1996. Throughout his career, Doug has served on numerous business, education, and charitable boards. He holds both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in English

Philip Lader, the former U.S. Ambassador to the Court of St. James's, is non-executive Chairman of WPP Group plc, the world-wide advertising/media firm which includes J. Walter Thompson, Ogilvy & Mather, Young & Rubicam, Grey Global, Burson-Marsteller and Hill & Knowlton, with 98,000 people in 106 countries.

He is also a partner in the U.S. law firm of Nelson, Mullins, Riley & Scarborough and a Senior Adviser to Morgan Stanley. He serves on the boards of Lloyd's of London, Marathon Oil, AES, Rusal and RAND Corporations, Songbird plc (Canary Wharf), the Smithsonian Museum of American History and the Salzburg Global Seminar.

Ambassador Lader served in President Clinton's Cabinet and was White House Deputy Chief of Staff and Assistant to the President, Deputy Director of the Office of Management & Budget and Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration. Before entering government service, he had been Executive Vice President of the late Sir James Goldsmith's U.S. holdings (including America's largest private landholdings), President of Sea Pines Company (developer/operator of award-winning new communities), and President of universities in Australia and his home state, South Carolina. He founded Renaissance Weekends, the family retreats for innovative leaders in diverse fields, in 1981.

He is an Honorary Fellow of Pembroke College, Oxford University, and London Business School, an Honorary Bencher of the Middle Temple, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Chief Executives Organisation and formerly was a trustee of the British Museum, the American Red Cross and St. Paul's Cathedral Foundation. His education includes Duke University (B.A., Phi Beta Kappa), The University of Michigan (M.A.), Oxford University (graduate studies in law) and Harvard Law School (J.D.). He has been awarded honorary doctorates by 14 universities and received the 2001 Benjamin Franklin Medal from the Royal Society for the Arts, Manufactures & Commerce for his contributions to trans-Atlantic relations.
